Visit Mount Etna is a team of licensed volcanological and alpine guides founded by Vincenzo Modica — guiding on this volcano is our profession. When you write to us, a guide answers, and every tour is led by a certified guide from our selected team.

Who we are

Visit Mount Etna was founded by Vincenzo Modica, a certified volcanological guide with years of experience leading visitors through the landscapes of Europe's most active volcano. His passion for Etna, combined with deep knowledge of its geology, history and culture, is the backbone of every excursion — from summit tours at 3,300 m to family walks among the birches. Vincenzo Modica is also an Accompagnatore Turistico of the Sicilian Region, NCC and a Guida Ambientale Escursionistica. These qualifications do not add transfers to the excursions offered here. Vincenzo has worked as a guide since October 2000 and is an AGAI member.

We consult public bulletins and ETNAS state-change alerts, adapting itineraries to conditions and applicable restrictions.

We organise excursions with qualified guides, choosing itineraries according to conditions and restrictions on the day. We work with:

Our credentials

Our guides are members of the recognized professional bodies for mountain and volcano guiding in Italy, including the regional college of alpine and volcanological guides of Sicily. These qualifications are what the law requires to lead visitors to Etna's high zones — and they guarantee training in safety, mountain leadership and volcanic risk management.
